We might at times have a tendency to think being God would really be easy. You know, you have all power, all knowledge and can do anything you want. Time would be of no importance as you would be without beginning or end. But, the question is would being a righteous God be easy?
One the surface it would seem so, but remember, if you were the “righteous” God, you would be limiting yourself and could not just do what you want when you want. Your very nature has to be “righteous” and your every decision must be perfect, no changing your mind, once you commit to something, you must follow through.
I recall the story of Esther, where the evil Haman had made a decree with the king’s permission (but not knowledge) that the people could kill all the Jewish people and take all they owned. Once the king found out about it, he had Haman killed and gave all his possessions unto Esther, but the king could not reverse the decree, it was already given. The only solution was to make a new decree that allowed the Jewish people to fight back and kill anyone attacking them and they would have possessions of their attackers.
If this is required of a mortal man, how much more of all mighty God? Once He commits to something, He cannot take it back, the only solution is to make a new decree. This is what God did through Yeshua (Jesus), He made a way to be redeemed from the result of Adam and Eve’s (and all mankind’s) sin. He paid the price to allow us to become His again.
Now, a bit of the hard parts of being God. When that great Day of Judgment comes which shall be for every human that has every lived on this earth, there will be sadness in the heart of God. Multitudes of people that have lived what some might say was a decent life, not done too many bad things, will stand before Him, clothed with their sins. The judgment will be clear and there will be no methods of escape. People may beg and plead, but it will be too late. God will have to sentence them to everlasting punishment because they have retained their sins. Their good works through life could not remove one sin, no matter what they did, each sin was recorded throughout their lives and judgment on those sins would be required.
God does not want anyone to suffer, but all it takes is one sin one time throughout your entire life to sentence you to everlasting punishment. Not because God is mean, nor humans perfect, but because we fail and do not receive God’s answer to remove those sins paying the price for them. People will probably stand there trying to justify themselves, that they did good things, many times greater than any sin they happened to do throughout their entire lives.
It is not the matter of how many sins, nor how bad of sins, all it takes is one lie any time throughout your life to damn your soul. Only stealing one little item, even simply taking someone’s pencil at school, or lusting after another person, even just in thought, one time, any time throughout your life condemns you. No matter what you do, it will be there, waiting for judgment. You could spend the rest of your life, living as a saint, giving everything to help people, but that one sin will condemn you!
Any and all sin must be punished. I have heard some say that God is love and He is forgiving and they feel they will be okay because they are good persons. Yes, God is love and He has no limit on forgiving people, but at the same time God is “just”, which requires Him to punish those who sin. He does not have the option to look the other way, if He did even just once, He would no longer be a “just” God.
Imagine if someone stole all you owned and killed you family. The criminal stands before the judge and says, “That was a while ago, and I have been very good since that time. Just last week I saved a child from a burning car and I ask you for mercy”. How would you feel if the judge set him free without punishment? That would not be justice since the law demands punishment for those crimes! How much more so for the courts of God?
No, it would not be easy to be God. He will have to pass judgment on people who were not really that bad, but still had sinned. They will be sentenced to everlasting punishment and God will see their punishment day and night for eternity. He gave us the one possible method to make us perfect in His sight, regardless of our past sins, but many have rejected that answer and will have to stand in judgment.
